I am directed by the Lords Comissioners of His Majesty's Treasury to transmit herewith to be laid before Mr. Secretary Montagu a copy of a letter dated the 1st instant which My Lords have received from the Admiralty relative to the issue of Naval half-pay in certain cases,

My Lorus feel some surprise at the statements made with regard to the case of Captain Brooke-Short, R.N.L.I., who is acting as Aide-de-Camp to the Governor of Bombay, and They would be glad if Mr. Montagu would cause Them to be informed whether any remuneration is received by this officer as Aide-de-Camp, and if so from what sources it is paid and by whom it is. authorised; and whether the Aide-de-Camp is officially recognised as a member of the Governor's staff,
